A special needs cat
We have a good natures male cat that need good home. We found him living under a tool shed at our apartments. He must have been abandon because he has been neutered, and he is used to human contact.
We fed him, for a few weeks and decided to give him to the OHS Oregon Humane Society because we thought his life would be better if he was adopted by a good home. The OHS has help us by finding homes for cats that somehow found their way into our life's. When we turned him over we paid for a call-back order, so in the event of a serious illness the OHS would call us to let us know he was sick.. Well after just nine days we received the phone call letting us know he was sick. The OHS would not be able to house Daryl and we should pick him up.. I picked him up after work that same day and took him to the vet.
He was so sick. He came down with Cat Flu or Upper Respiratory Illness, which is so prevalent inside of the OHS. When I picked him up he didn't eat or drink for two days. He was so dehydrated the vet wanted to keep him in the hospital, but we did not have the money to to that, so we did what we could. He was given two different antibiotic shot , and two different prescription of antibiotic pills. He was given water through an IV under his skin. When we brought him home our biggest problem was he was not eating and drinking, so for five days we force feed him every few hours. We had to isolate Daryl so he didn't get our other cats sick. It was allot of time, effort, and money but seeing him play with the other cats now makes it all worth while.
The main reason we can't keep his is, we have five cats of our own. One of which is a special needs cat who's name is Booger. He is diabetic, and he requires daily insulin injections. Also when we moved into our apartment, an apartment we really like living in, we told the owner we would not take in any more cats. We don't dare take him back to the OHS. It not that the OHS does a bad job, they do a great job with the recourses that they have, but Daryl is a special needs cat now and his new owner should be aware of that. He is healthy now but he is susceptible to the Cat Flu Viruses and could at some time in the future come down with it again
